Got $200,000? Mayor Cohen Doesn't

Dearest Historics:

The Finance Department heist lost the City $120,000.  Now the latest: the Safe Streets scam lost the City $200,000.  Money it never bothered to collect.

Some detail.

In December of 2009, Zina Pierre's lobbying firm helped the City of Annapolis apply for and win a 100% grant of $200,000 from the Federal Government. For 'Safe Streets' - public safety - purposes.  At the time city officials had to go to Washington and actually work to get it.  Lobbying Sens. Milkulski & Cardin and Rep. Sarbanes.

The money has been sitting there for almost a year now.  Through the birth of the Cohen Regime.  Into the dark days of Herr Smith's faked 'budget crisis' layoffs.  And all summer while the Mayor spent his time having fun running his friend's campaign.  Gee whiz!

Now into a new Federal fiscal year.

Yet this clock is still ticking - for a time.

Will the Cohenistas pick up the pen or a phone and go collect the money?  The Feds will eventually decide it is better spent elsewhere.  Like in Des Moines, for example.

So much money has been lost by this Administration through oversight and neglect.  And the results of these losses placed upon the backs of citizens and city workers.

What's another $200,000 to Mayor Cohen?

Not much, really.

  2. If true, that's maybe $200,000 we'll have to put in the Cohen column. But, he's got a long way to go, if he's to rival Moyer who blew $6,000,000 on the Market House alone, and millions more in misplaced priorities.

  3. Why is the Markethouse still empty almost year after the election - is it Moyer's fault ?

When will Cohen and his "crack" development team do something to turn the town around for the better ?

As a small business person I can't wait any longer as I am out of gas and ready to close shop if I don't have a great holiday season.

What is the city doing to help things downtown? Where is the sense of urgency ?

  4. I found this, which might explain a few things :

    " Miron Sternsteninblatz said...
Josh is doing the best he can given he level of competency. Please be patient with him. He is a man of limited capacity and has struggled his entire life to complete projects."

As a community we may need to help Josh to become a fully self-actualized person. Please learn to love.

  7. Downtown businesses who whine about an almost empty Market House are barking at the wrong place. Look in the mirror. Check your own business plan, folks. It is not the City's fault for the ecomonic downturn. Those weaker businesses should look at their demographics, merchandise and target audiences, not insist on another citizen's committee to determine what to allow in the MH. Did you not take advantage of the county's super business assistance department? There is plenty of small business assistance around here.

  9. Clearly the best thing to do with Downtown is build condos for the wealthy, and privatize the entire city dock area.

  12. The sad part of King's post is that there were many more grants in the works to benefit the City, but the new administration did not want to know about them...check that secret hall closet for the documents.

    Tie Selection Idea Team

Boy J : Honey, I want to wear a tie today. Get the family together and a few neighbors QUICKLY, we must brainstorm before I select my neck wear.
Attendant: The lady has gathered the Tie Selection Idea Team Boy J
Boy J (standing before Idea Team): As you know the last tie selection was a disaster, my shirt was stained by ther faulty dye, and the last selector was asked to leave. I am Honored to be here with such a great team of tie selectors to discuss the formulation of the requirements and desired outcome of a tie in the complex enviroment and economic realities of the masses, keeping in mine the desire values i must maintain, in the short term I reserve all right to refuse but will reserve options to decide furthall things.

.....after several hours of discussion Boy J blurts....

Thank you all for your input, in light of the great progress we have made today, I will be going to The Annapolis Mall in order to fulfill the needs we have formulated!!! I will be leaving in my car, as soon as the Head of PArking brings it to me ( Head of Parking whispers into Boy J's ear)
WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY CAR WAS STOLEN LAST WEEK !!?? Why was I not told ?

  35. Josh Cohen was burned in effigy by an angry mob before being used as a urinal. Police are investigating.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Cohen the Effigy was found today encrusted in wet charcoal floating in a makeshift raft in the middle of back creek. He was later seen being dragged out of the creek into a large white van driven by beautiful laughing large-breasted women dressed as librarians. The van was last scene near Key School.

  37. Sources say the Cohen the urine coated effigy was placed inside a porta-potty located on a construction site. The porta-john was the pushed over with the contents and rolled toward a pile of rubble. No further information is available. Several croquet mallets were found at the scene.

  38. Josh was seen asking to borrow some money from his Mom so he could charter a bus and take a group of random citizens to the Rally to Restore Sanity tomorrow in D.C. Josh was last seen pounding his hands into the ground shouting " I hate you Mom, you never let me do what I want to do " .

Meanwhile, burnt effigy sits patiently waiting for its final destiny to unfold.
